"What should I charge?" is the most common question new practitioners ask. There is no single answer — rates vary by field, NQF level, region and your track record — but here are realistic 2026 ranges and a method for pricing whole programmes. For live estimates, use the Famasa Rate Advisor.

Facilitation day rates

Most facilitation is quoted per day. Typical 2026 ranges run from around R2 500/day for lower-NQF generic programmes to R6 000+/day for specialised technical or safety fields and senior facilitators. Scarce-skill and corporate work sits at the top of the range.

Assessment fees

Assessment is usually priced per learner (often R300–R700 depending on qualification complexity) or as a day rate for on-site assessment. Remember that PoE marking and feedback take time — price for the real hours, not just contact days.

Moderation fees

Moderation is commonly a flat fee per programme or a per-learner sampling fee. Retainers with providers who run regular intakes are the most profitable arrangement.

Pricing a full programme

Add up: (facilitation days × day rate) + (assessment per learner × learners) + (moderation fee) + travel/accommodation + a margin for admin and PoE time. Quote a clear, itemised figure — vague quotes lose contracts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I charge VAT?

Only if you are VAT-registered (compulsory above the SARS threshold). Make clear whether your quote includes or excludes VAT.

How do ratings affect my rate?

Strongly. A verified 5-star history on Famasa justifies premium rates because it lowers the provider's risk. Great work literally pays.
